Brisbane's best Chinese restaurant

There is at least one Chinese take away restaurant in every suburb of Brisbane, ranging from average to fantastic in taste and flavor.

Do you have a favorite Chinese restaurant nearby, or do you venture into Chinatown for an authentic yum cha fix? While we're at it, what is your all time favorite Chinese dish?

I can't go past good dumplings and my favorite are at New Shanghai in Queen's Plaza, Brisbane CBD. It has a great vibe and you can watch them making the dumplings in the kitchen. I also frequent Bamboo Basket at Southbank, where you can also watch them preparing the dumplings in the kitchen.

If you thinking Chinese - think Dragon Lake! Great atmosphere....great food!
North Garden Chinese Restaurant in Burpengary has been around for over 10 years and is definitely pick of the lot on the north side of Brisbane. Always busy, even on week nights, which is not surprising considering the friendly service and quality food. All meals, including entrees such as spring rolls, are freshly made by their chefs, as is the legendary deep fried ice cream dessert.
Let the staff know if you are celebrating a special occasion!
Brisbane is not really a good place for Chinese food. Most of it is very westernised with the focus on a limited number of dishes no matter what cuisine they say they are serving.

Some rules.

Most of the restaurants in the city or Fortitude Valley. My Chinese friends who have been to these restaurants won't go back. Though I have to admit they usually do fairly competent Yum Cha.

The exception is the New Shanghai with its wonderful atmosphere and authentic Shanghai cuisine, worth queuing to try it.

There are a number of interesting Chinese restaurants loved by Chinese people in Sunnybank. Here are a few worth trying.

The Fortune Well Red Chilli Restaurant in the Sunnypark restaurant serves everyone's favourite sichuan dishes.

Top Hot Pot in Sunnybank does Chinese hotpot. If you haven't tried this before then it is worth going there with a large group of friends. While I prefer to go in Winter, my Northern Chinese friends will go any time of the year. You are given a soup pot, half with chilli hot soup and and one that is savoury. You order foods to put in the pot. Usually order a few things like beef and lamp, which can be cooked first to flavour the pot. Add in potatoes, frozen tofu (Freezing tofu changes the texture making it taste really delicious), mushrooms, various green vegetables and so on.
