Indian restaurants are a dime a dozen these days, and as a huge fan of Indian food I've tried as many as I can. An old favourite is Southern Spice at Mt. Gravatt - they won't win any awards for décor or atmosphere but the food is fabulous. A new favourite, and in fact the only one I've eaten at in the last six months since it was recommended to me, is Curryville at Morningside; this place has been like a revelation, I feel like I finally understand what good Indian food should look and taste like. Curryville's food is super fresh, and bursting with flavours, without being heavy or too oily (I highly recommend the vegetable chaat).
Where have you found the best Indian food in Brisbane? And what makes it the best?
My favourite is Mughal Palace on Logan Road at Mt.Gravatt. They have fantastic paneer dishes featuring their own, homemade cheese and the Mughal flavours are a bit fruitier than other Indian styles. The staff are really friendly and most of the dishes are gluten free. They home deliver as well (I think the driver is on first name basis with us now!)
I lived in India for two years a lifetime ago - so I am very very choosy about good Indian food and won't settle for the ordinary stuff. My top picks for Brisbane are J&K at Indooroopilly (everything I have had there is just delicious and great value for money); Shanti Indo-Lankan at Darra (miniscule with very limited seating but their dosa, only served at lunchtime, are amazing; Halim's at Rosalie (best butter chicken in Oz as far as I'm concerned, exactly like butter chicken in India tastes - not too tomato-y); Mirch Masala Chat at the Gabba (indian vegetarian street food - amazing and soooo cheap, best mango lassi to date); and last but not least Mahendra's at Browns Plains - no atmosphere whatsoever but amazing food and incredibly cheap prices.
